Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K.Rowling Review

About Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter's life is miserable. His parents are dead and he's stuck with his heartless relatives, who force him to live in a tiny closet under the stairs. But his fortune changes when he receives a letter that tells him the truth about himself: he's a wizard. A mysterious visitor rescues him from his relatives and takes him to his new home, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

After a lifetime of bottling up his magical powers, Harry finally feels like a normal kid. But even within the Wizarding community, he is special. He is the boy who lived: the only person to have ever survived a killing curse inflicted by the evil Lord Voldemort, who launched a brutal takeover of the Wizarding world, only to vanish after failing to kill Harry.
Though Harry's first year at Hogwarts is the best of his life, not everything is perfect. There is a dangerous secret object hidden within the castle walls, and Harry believes it's his responsibility to prevent it from falling into evil hands. But doing so will bring him into contact with forces more terrifying than he ever could have imagined.
Full of sympathetic characters, wildly imaginative situations, and countless exciting details, the first installment in the series assembles an unforgettable magical world and sets the stage for many high-stakes adventures to come.

" "Harry -- Yer a wizard."

"I'm a what?" gasped Harry

"A wizard, o' course," said Hagrid."

And that’s how Mr. Harry Potter found out he was a wizard but im getting a little ahead of myself. Let's start from the beginning.

Harry a young boy living with his Aunt and Uncle after he was orphaned struggles with the day to day life of living with the Dursley's and their son Dudley. Suddenly everything is turned upside down when he finds out he's a wizard and an evil wizard had killed his parents and attempted the same with him but somehow Harry stopped him. Now Harry must Navigate the wizarding world he never knew about while starting at his new school Hogwarts.

Finding new friends, making new enemies,  encountering old ones and learning how to do magic, Harry has his hands full. One thing Harry knows for certain is that his life will never be the same.

Even after all these years and the many times I've read this book it still manages to make me feel full of magic. The wizarding world as a whole, making you feel full  of delight and wonder. The magic of Hogwarts, the bustling of Diagon Alley, and the mystery of Gringotts.

We don’t really get into the main plot until about halfway through the book but once we get into it we get straight to the point and have a fun adventure to finding out about the Sorcerer's Stone, Nicolas Flammel and how they are important to Voldemort.

  • Neville not getting more points and recognition for standing up to his friends. Because let's be honest the only reason he got in trouble in the past was because he was trying to help them and what did he get? A measly 10 points.
  •  the treatment of Hermione by Ron and Harry in the beginning of the book
  • How the Gryffindor's treated Harry, Hermione and Neville after they lost the points for the house.
  • Snape being well Snape I guess but that’s a blog for another time

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that."

"I believe your friends misters Fred and George Weasley were responsible for trying to send you a toilet seat. No doubt they thought it would amuse you. Madam Pomfrey, however, felt it might not be very hygienic, and confiscated it."

"IT sneezed. a couple of sparks flew out of its snout.
"Isn't he beautiful?" Hagrid murmured. He reached out a hand to stroke the dragon's head. It snapped at his fingers, showing pointed fangs.
"Bless him he knows his mummy!" said Hagrid"

" "P for prefect! Get it on, Percy, come on, we're all wearing ours, even Harry got one."
I - don't - want - " said Percy thickly, as the twins forced the sweater over his head, knocking his glasses askew.
"and you're not sitting with the prefects today either." said George. "Christmas is a time for family."
They frog-marched Percy from the room, his arms pinned to his side by his sweater."

'She stood up, glaring at them.
"I hope you're pleased with yourselves. We could have been killed -- or worse, expelled. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to bed."

  • Neville but i'm pretty sure I made that clear in my dislikes
  • The trio once they all become friends
  • PEEVES. I need more Peeves.
  • The Twins, I just love them so much
  • Hagrid of course! And his love of magical creatures goodness I love him
